Starting Out

It is amazing the feeling you get when you realize just how close you really are to accomplishing your goals and realizing your dreams. In high school I wanted to be a movie star, my first two years of college were spent wanting to be a hot shot in the advertising world; but once I finally grew up, I realized that I had it right when I was 5. I want to be a teacher. 5-year-old me knew that the whole time but for some reason I didn't think that was a very cool option when I was 18. Now that I am a semester away from graduating and earning my teaching certificate, I think it's the coolest job in the world.

I am one week into student teaching and I couldn't be happier. My student teaching story is a little different from that of my peers because I am also trying to navigate raising a 3-year-old boy who certainly keeps me on my toes, and working at a kids clothing store 20 hours a week. So, this should be an interesting semester to say the least. I will likely be adding little tid-bits about those two things in this blog as well! Luckily, I have amazing parents who are helping me out a lot right now!

Now, about this student teaching stuff....

It's certainly a lot of work but I am so excited! It feels so good to go to school every day and teach as well as learn. I think it is important for teachers to continue to learn through their careers and from their students. I love the school that I'm at and my cooperating teacher has already taught me a ton! He and I have a lot of similar views on teaching so far and he has great classroom management skills which is good for me because that is where I struggle.

Well this is my first attempt at a blog, hopefully it will go better than my countless diaries did when I was little!

  1. You're so awesome. No matter how tough things may get during the next 16 weeks, don't forget that!
